The Sponsorship & Dedication policy was adopted by Council on October 11, 2023 which sets out the Naming of Town Assets program in Appendix E. This program includes the commemorative naming of Town assets (i.e., Town-owned parks and/or facilities, or any major components thereof).

The Process:

The process for commemorative naming includes:

  • Submission of an application.
  • Initial review by the Commemorative Naming Working Group for confirmation that at least one of the commemorative naming criteria has been sufficiently met.
  • Public consultation for a minimum of 30 calendar days.
  • Consultation with applicant(s), internal department(s) and any necessary external stakeholders.
  • Compilation of consultation results and a secondary review by the Commemorative Naming Working Group.
  • Approval or rejection of proposed naming by Council resolution.

Applications & Surveys:

Applications that have been submitted and approved to move forward with public consultation.

  • Survey is open from July 24, 2025 – August 22, 2025 at 4:30pm.

    Community members have submitted an application to commemorate George Selkirk, for his outstanding contributions to the game of baseball, by naming Diamond 'F' at the McCulley Robertson Recreation Park as "Selkirk Diamond".


    About George Selkirk

    George ‘Twinkletoes’ Selkirk played Major League Baseball from 1934 – 1942 and won 5 World Series ChampionshipsOf the approximately 280 Canadians to play Major League Baseball, George is the only one from Huntsville. He was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983, the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Huntsville Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. He is also credited with the invention of the warning trackThrough his exceptional performance in baseball, Selkirk brought considerable honour to the Town of Huntsville, the Province of Ontario, and Canada.
