Calling all Artists and Artist Teams!The Town of Huntsville recognizes the important role public art plays in placemaking, creating vibrant, engaging spaces that spark dialogue and delight, attract visitors and residents, create a sense of civic pride, and increase opportunities for legitimate loitering to enhance crime prevention.Together with members of the Muskoka Arts and Crafts, the Downtown Huntsville BIA, Huntsville/Lake of Bays Chamber of Commerce, Huntsville Festival of the Arts, and Huntsville Art Society, the Town is inviting qualified visual artists with a connection and/or understanding of the area&#39;s local history and culture to submit to the Kent Park Public Art Project Call to Artists for a permanent outdoor work or works of art at Kent Park.Kent Park is a popular gathering space located in the heart of downtown Huntsville, used for special events throughout the year including the annual Christmas tree lighting and summer buskers. It is located on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg under the terms of the Robinson-Huron Treaty #61 of 1850, and the Williams Treaties of 1923.In 2022, the park was revitalized as part of the Town of Huntsville&rsquo;s Downtown Streetscape Project and offers a range of possibilities for two- or three-dimensional works of art in terms of size, shape, and artistic media of a permanent nature.The purpose of this Call for Artists is to enter into an agreement with a suitable artist or artist team to create a permanent piece of public art that adds to the vibrant and unique character of this popular gathering space. Kent Park - Public Art Project

Pitman&#39;s Bay is a municipally owned and maintained 88-acre property located on Mary Lake, a short five minute drive from Huntsville. The facilities on site include a main building, washrooms, a beach, and a pergola with picnic tables. The Pitman&#39;s Bay property currently has restraints on the usage from an agreement dating back to 1951, including a management board.To better understand who uses the property and how the property should be used in the future, the Town of Huntsville is conducting a survey and hosting a public consultation event. The feedback received will help inform Town staff and their recommendation to Council on permitted uses and agreements that govern the Pitman&#39;s Bay property.Want a say in how Pitman&#39;s Bay will be used in the future? Pitman's Bay Usage Public Consultation

The Community Services Division is seeking community input on whether or not residents and user groups would like ice year round in the Don Lough Area at the Canada Summit Centre.Please tell us your thoughts on the appropriate survey below. The public engagement opportunity will be conducted online throughout April and May, closing on May 31, 2023 at 4:30pm. In addition paper copies of the survey are available at the Canada Summit Centre customer service. Information will be gathered and staff will provide the details in a report to the July General Committee.

Have Your Say about Huntsville Public Library!

The Town of Huntsville is looking for input on the use of Port Sydney Beach specifically to address boat mooring locations and the safety of swimmers and individuals using the beach.Mooring boats at Port Sydney Beach has been a common use of the area for many years, however there has been an increased demand with new mooring locations expanding from the north side of the beach to the south side of the swimming area. While there are currently no limits or rules in place that govern the mooring of vessels at the beach, the Town of Huntsville would like public feedback on this matter.Everyone is welcome to participate by sharing their ideas below or by attending an outdoor public meeting on September 21, 2021 from 3:00pm &ndash; 7:00pm at the Port Sydney Beach dock. Team members will be in attendance to hear and share ideas with the public. If you require special accommodation, please contact <a class="fr-green" href="mailto:jennifer.kyle@huntsville.ca">jennifer.kyle@huntsville.ca </a>at 705-789-1751 ext 3821.Background:At the July 28, 2021 General Committee meeting, Resolution GC141-21 was passed which directed staff to report back to General Committee with a proposed solution to be in place by 2022 specifically dealing with the number of boats mooring at the Port Sydney beach with full consideration in making the area safer for those using the beach and swim area for committee consideration.The Port Sydney beach area is well used by swimmers and boats for both launching and mooring of boats. In the past few years staff have noticed an increased demand of outdoor and waterfront space used by members of the public. With the recent beach improvements to the Port Sydney beach it is now not uncommon to find the existing beach area full with users by 10:30am. Presently there are 55 mooring points observed in the waterfront area with confirmed sightings of 39 vessels mooring. Staff are unsure of the usage of the 16 vacant mooring points that were observed. The mooring of vessels has been a common use of the area for many years mostly on the north side of the boat ramp, the increase demand for mooring points has now expanded this use to the south side of the swim area. At present time there are no limits or rules in place that govern the mooring of vessels at the beach area.
